The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with the ability to cultivate strong community relationships, generate significant funding sources, promote the brand, and manage the One Step Beyond Arizona Programs.


Organizational Description:

One Step Beyond, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving individuals who Intellectual Disability. Our Vision is a world in which individuals with disability are fully included in all aspects of community life and are appreciated for the contributions they can make to their community. Our Mission is to provide programs and services that empower individuals with intellectual disability to realize the opportunities that lead to achieving the fundamental components of a fulfilling life: maximum independence, meaningful work, enriching social relationships, and full inclusion in community life. We offer programs in vocational development, employment, and placement; life skills training, focusing on social skill development, functional literacy, and household management; recreation and fitness, including Special Olympics; and cultural arts opportunities.


Qualifications: Experience, Knowledge, Abilities

· Required BS or BA

· Required: Experience working with the Intellectual Disability population (or a similar vulnerable population).

· Required: Experience as a results oriented, innovative leader, with a demonstrated record of success in leading management teams to the next level of performance.

· Required: Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to establish and cultivate strong relationships with individuals within the organization and within the community.

Preferred Qualifications:

· MBA or Master's Degree

· Verifiable record of success in managing complex organizations with expertise in nonprofit organization management.


´╗┐Position Summary:

The Arizona Executive Director (AZED) serves as the leader of One Step Beyond, Inc. (OSBI) in Arizona, is the primary public representative of OSBI in Arizona, and reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The AZED works in partnership with the OSBI Board of Directors and Executive and Program Leadership Teams to ensure that OSBI fulfills its mission and strategically plans for the future success, financial viability, and leadership of OSBI as a premiere provider of programs and services to Individuals with Intellectual Disability in the State of Arizona. The AZED, as the prime mover of the organization’s Arizona strategic priorities, enthusiastically supports and shares the vision of OSBI with and provides leadership and professional guidance to all Arizona staff and volunteers. The AZED is also a prime mover in the strategic goals of OSBI Development and Communication efforts to seek donor and foundation support to enhance the quality, responsiveness, and sustainability of OSBI programs and services.


Strategic Planning

Partner with the Board of Directors and Executive and Program Leadership Teams to promote and articulate the organization's Vision, Mission, and Core Values, and to develop strategies for achieving organizational success.

Develop and implement annual operating plans that support the strategic direction set by the Board and Executive Leadership Team and correlate these with annual operating budgets.

Partner with the Board and Executive Leadership Team to develop and monitor strategies for ensuring the long-term financial viability of the organization.


Board Communication

Collaborate with Executive Team to plan the Agenda of Board Meetings.

Collaborate with Executive Team to prepare Strategic Planning Reports for Board review and approval.

Prepare monthly informational updates to the Board on Arizona Programs and Operations.

Present informational reports at Board Meetings to inform the Board in the development of policies and planning recommendations.



Oversee the operations of the organization in Arizona and its compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Develop and maintain policies and procedures for implementing strategic plans developed by the Executive Team and approved by the Board of Directors.

Promote a collaborative employee culture that reflects the organization's values, encourages good performance, and rewards productivity.

Promote the development of the organization’s human capital by hiring qualified staff and supporting managers in their efforts to retain and support the professional growth of staff.


Financial Stewardship

Collaborate with CFO to develop annual budgets for Arizona Programs and Services that support operating plans.

Prudently manage the organization's resources within budget guidelines.

Collaborate with the CFO to provide prompt, thorough, and accurate information to keep the Board appropriately informed of the organization's financial position.

Collaborate with the CFO to provide guidance to program leaders to insure the sustainability while continuously improving the quality and responsiveness of programs.

Provide prompt, thorough, and accurate information to keep the Board appropriately informed on the organization’s programs and operations.


Program Effectiveness

Oversee the design, delivery, and quality of programs and services.

Stay abreast of current trends related to the organization's mission and services and anticipate future trends likely to have an impact on its work.

Collect and analyze evaluation information that measures the success of One Step Beyond program efforts, and collaborate with Program Leadership team to enhance programs in response to that information.


Development, Communications, and Community Outreach

Collaborate with the Development and Communications Team to develop and implement strategic plans to raise funds from donors, sponsors, and foundations to support OSBI programs.

Collaborate with Director of Development and Communications to serve as a primary person in donor relationships and a key person to make one-on-one fundraising solicitations.

Oversee Director of Development and Communications to ensure timely submission of grant applications and progress reports for funders.

Collaborate with Director of Development and Communications to use competitive marketing techniques and technology to identify and connect to target audiences.

Collaborate with Director of Development and Communications to enhance the visibility of One Step Beyond, its programs and community impact, throughout the general community.

Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative for One Step Beyond in Arizona.

Assure that One Step Beyond and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive manner to relevant stakeholders.

Actively advocate for One Step Beyond, its beliefs, and its programmatic efforts.

Act as a liaison between One Step Beyond and the community, building relationships and partnerships with peer organizations when appropriate.

Attend appropriate public functions and make effective public presentations.

Establish and maintain contacts with key individuals in both the public and private sectors.
