Chief Compliance Officer

The position is responsible for the overall performance and success of Mayo Clinic's compliance activities as relates to the 7 elements of an effective compliance program described in the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. This position provides leadership, direction and oversight to compliance activities including those related to Privacy, Revenue Cycle, Laboratory, Research, Medical Industry Relations and Conflict of Interest, International, and Manufacturing. The main responsibilities are to: 1) develop and/or maintain the Mayo Clinic Integrity and Compliance Program, including the Code of Conduct and other policies as appropriate; 2) monitor the regulatory environment and update the Integrity and Compliance Program as needed; 3) oversee compliance related activities, including ensuring that Mayo Clinic's compliance hotline is administered effectively and that employees and contractors are screened against exclusion lists; 4) provide strategy for compliance risk assessment and reporting; 5) continually raise awareness of compliance, integrity and risk issues, including through training and education; 6) provide a written and oral report (as needed and not less than quarterly) to the Board of Governors and the Audit and Compliance Committee of the Board of Trustees; 7) coordinate routine and ad hoc internal and external compliance reviews, monitoring and auditing to ensure continued adherence to the Integrity and Compliance Program; 8) stay current with existing and new compliance risk areas and applicable laws and regulations through ongoing education; 9) manage staff in the Integrity & Compliance Office. The CCO has authority to have direct access to outside legal counsel as appropriate.
