Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior management position organizationally situated within the Administration Department of the Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC).  The position will be responsible for all long-range financial matters and the establishment of agency-wide goals, objectives, policies, programs and practices to assure the agency of a continuously sound financial structure. The CFO supervises the Director of Finance and overseas the fiscal operations of the agency to ensure the development, maintenance and execution of needed financial and managerial accounting systems.  The CFO also supervises Financial Analysis, which supports the Agency’s strategic, organizational and operational analyses. 



Responsible for all financial and fiscal management aspect of company operations. Provide leadership and coordination in the administrative, accounting, business planning, budgeting efforts of the company and finance. 


• A strategic thinker.  Someone who can understand complex funding streams and their impact on program operations.  The CFO is a person who can help our organization maximize revenue while maintaining effective and efficient programs.

• Coordinate and evaluate the financial programs and information systems of the company that include budgeting, program development, tax planning, real estate, and conservation of assets. 

• Approve and coordinate improvements in automated financial and management information systems. 

• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements

• Timely file all necessary documents to local, state and federal agencies as required by law  

• Oversee cash flow management

• Track important KPIs and analyze trends

• Forecast return on investment (ROI) for current and future programs

• Develop and monitor budgets

• Inform key stakeholders of financial status and investment plans

• Ensure all financial operations comply with federal and state laws

• Present monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements to executives and board of directors

• Coordinate audit activities

• Represent the company to investors and public officials

• Supervise the accounting department to ensure smooth day-to-day transactions



Reports to: Executive Director

Supervises:     Accounting and Finance Department.


This position typically works Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week.                                            Salary $130,000-$150,000 per year 


Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in a financial management position.Extensive knowledge of  government managing government contracts, finance, accounting, 

• Experience in not-for-profit behavioral health field

• Experience with not-for-profit organizations budgeting, finance and cost control principles including GAAP.

• Knowledge of compliance regulations.

• Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations 

• Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills 

MBA or related degree preferred 

CPA Required 

Extensive Knowledge of MS Office, FundEZ, financial accounting software, inventory controls
