Job Description

Serves as a member of the CEO's senior leadership team.  The Chief Financial Officer will partner with the CEO, to be an active participant and driver of the Organization's overall business strategy while also setting and monitoring the YMCA of Frederick County's financial policy and direction. He/She will lead all financial administration which includes analysis and reporting, planning and budgeting, forecasting and capital management. In addition to Finance, the CFO will directly supervise the HR department and functions.  As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will work closely with a motivated and engaged finance committee of the Board of Directors.


  • A Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.  Accounting designation/certification, or an advanced degree in accounting.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in finance and accounting.  YMCA or another non-profit experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to set and lead strategies that increase the financial health of the business.
  • Strong background in understanding different financing strategies for capital projects;Strong analytical skills and experience in translating a strategic vision into financial and operational reality.
  • Federal Grant Program experience preferred.
  • Experience using information technology to lead and streamline finance and accounting procedures and in producing predictive indicators to best manage the organization.
  • Strong communication, networking and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent team builder and team player, ability to work in a self-directed fashion.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills, capable of working effectively with board members, staff member and volunteers.
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner building strong relations with leaders in a wide variety of organizations in the community.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and implementation of the business components of the Y's new Real-time Strategic Plan.
  • Serves as primary staff to the Finance Committee and other assigned committees of the Board of Directors.  Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels.
  • Develop and monitor the annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Review and improve all treasury, accounting, tax, and investment functions and systems with a special focus on best business practices using technology.
  • Review and improve all management information technology functions and systems, including software and hardware solutions.
  • Negotiate and monitor solid contracts/agreements and maintain strong working relationships with service providers and financial institutions.
  • Supervise, develop, and provide on-going support to the Finance Department staff.
  • Represents the association as required by the CEO.

Salary: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00
