About the Office: The Office of Policy and Planning was created by Mayor de Blasio in 2018. The Office will conduct research, drive and coordinate development of City policy across City agencies and offices, and lead efforts to develop long-term plans to address the challenges facing the City.

About the Role: The Chief of Staff in the Office of Policy & Planning will provide programmatic and high level administrative, policy and research support to the Chief Policy Advisor and senior members of the team. Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  Overseeing day-to-day office operations;  Monitoring and coordinating the team’s budget, personnel matters and other sensitive or confidential tasks as may be assigned by the Chief Policy Advisor;  Drafting, compiling and editing briefing materials, memos, and policy specific research;  Working in coordination with City Hall communications, press, and legislative affairs teams to advance the City’s policy and planning messages;  Managing agency relationships and coordinating interagency actions, ensuring a consistent message internally and externally;  Providing guidance on all documents that come into and leave the team for continuity;  Managing any public appearances and speaking engagements of the Chief Policy Advisor, including vetting invitations, coordinating remarks, speeches, slides and other content;  Overseeing actions by the Special Assistant and other members of the team and supporting the establishment and maintenance of relevant electronic and paper files, including project, program and communication files;  Assisting in miscellaneous stakeholder outreach, special projects, and events;  Special projects and policy development tasks, as may be assigned by the Chief Policy Advisor;  Other duties, as assigned. Qualifications:  A baccalaureate and/or master’s degree from an accredited college/university;  A minimum of five (5) years of full-time relevant professional experience;  An understanding of policy issues related to the City of New York and the provision of services across its five boroughs;  A background in public policy, public administration, government, management or program development;  Experience creating processes and systems to enhance and streamline office activity;   Experience managing multiple junior and mid-level employees as part of a team, as well as interfacing with senior officials;  Attention to detail and excellent organization skills, including the ability to manage complex projects, sensitive information, analytical data and multifaceted internal and external relationships;  Demonstrated experience in task and information management, including adhering to targeted deadlines and problem solving;  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in terms of creating, directing and translating rigorous, defensible public policy models into transparent conclusions that can be explained and understood by the public.
