We are seeking a Copywriter/Editor with solid writing and editorial experience to join our non-profit in the marketing and communications department.

The right candidate will create, promote, and leverage content for a variety of short and long-form pieces for print and email marketing with a primary focus on executive communications, reports, newsletter content, advertisements, press releases, scripts, emails, and advertorials across multiple departments.

The selected candidate will work with the Director of Marketing to evolve the brand and maintain brand consistency. This individual will work in a collaborative team environment that also includes graphic designers, event manager, marketing manager, and digital strategist, as well as department heads.

This is a full-time in-office position for the right person.

Day-To-Day Responsibilities

  • Work with Director of Marketing, Marketing Manager, and Digital Content Strategist to shape the voice of the association and maintain brand consistency.
  • Write clear, concise, marketing communications, research-based copy, and editorial copy that aligns with the overall marketing strategy and goals of the association.
  • Editing short and long form documents by fixing grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors, as well as fact-checking names, places, titles, dates, and statistics.
  • Support the development of member resources including educational programming across all departments and functions, including offering recommendations, creating content, and updating current resources.
  • Write and edit a monthly editorial column for external publication.
  • Assist in project management and execution of multiple projects and tasks on tight deadlines while maintaining creativity, brand voice, and productivity in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Oversee the production of a magazine with the Director of Marketing including maintaining vendor relationship, magazine themes, editorial direction, and article storylines.
  • Write, edit, and manage newsletters and email communications.


  • You must have a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, journalism, or a subject related to marketing, with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience working as a copywriter, editor, or at an in-house agency (minimum of 2 years of consistent, in-office work).
  • Ability to think creatively, critically, and analytically with a strong desire to learn.
  • Ability to articulate ideas and present a consistent brand message across media channels.
  • Experience working with graphic designers and other creatives in a team environment.
  • Understanding of editing process and ability to collaborate with colleagues to edit text written by others.
  • Understanding of editorial planning, management, and execution including writing articles, white papers, and reports for internal and external publication.
  • Understanding of nuances in writing and editing for a range of purposes, from long-form print publications to online text to advertisements to email marketing.
  • Experience working directly with c-suite.
  • Expert in Microsoft Office programs required (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of Meltwater and/or PR management software.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in the architecture and design industry.
  • Understanding or strong interest in commercial design or architecture (not residential).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Self-motivated person who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be collaborative, organized, creative, and efficient—able to work successfully both individually and as part of a team on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with our members, some of whom may be prominent figures in their field, and their representatives.
