Development Director


Houston, TX, USA

Overview: The Development Director is a senior member of the management team responsible for oversight of a proactive multi-faceted fundraising program. The Development Director works closely with CEO, staff, and members of the Board of Directors in creating and implementing development strategies, goals and plans. This full-time position maintains a visible presence in the philanthropic, corporation and non-profit communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for revenue growth, donor renewal, donor upgrades and devising methods to decrease donor attrition.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward potential and current individuals, corporations, foundations.
  • Communicate with donors regularly to keep them informed on the impact their contributions make.
  • Create and execute cultivation, recognition, and stewardship activities for current and prospective donors with the intent to increase their affinity for HACS.
  • Develop and initiate a multi-year annual campaign.
  • Manage all aspects of a private foundation and corporate grant development efforts with a focus on building and maintaining long-term relationship.
  • Research and develop relationships with potential public and governmental grant funders and assist in the writing where needed.
  • Manage major gift solicitations.
  • Oversee, supervise and provide support for all special events including participation in and/or benefit from events conducted by other organizations.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the donor data management tools (software, recording keeping, etc.) through the supervision of input and output.
  • Exercise sound fiscal management including revenue enhancement and expense control.
  • Increase the Center’s visibility in the community by attending community events and by developing and disseminating publicity materials to media sources, donors, and potential donors.
  • Oversee donor relations activities, including board/volunteer committee relations and communicate directly with Board Members and volunteers for development support needs.
  • Assist with quality management/assurance functions.
  • Other duties assigned by the CEO.


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of fundraising management experience with demonstrated success in individual, corporate, and foundation solicitations and stewardship.
  • Experience in working directly with a Board of Directors and volunteer committees.
  • Self-starter with knowledge of Houston community.
  • Supervision experience preferred.
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills in English are essential.
  • Fluency in Spanish (written and oral) is an asset.

Continuing Education and Training Requirements:

Participates in training required by the funding source and/or required by licensing board.
