Development Director

QUALIFICATIONS: Working with the Executive Director, the Development Director will spearhead all aspects of the fundraising and development plan for Valley Pregnancy Center. The Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that initiate, cultivate and maintain long term donor relationships leading to the fulfillment of fundraising objectives. She/he must possess a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with the Valley Pregnancy Center statement of faith. A background in Christian ministry and understanding of local church operations and congregations is helpful. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge and a proven track record in non-profit fundraising. The Development Director must possess excellent human relations skills; strong organizational skills; be goal oriented and self-motivated; understand and be able to manage and work within a budget. Experience managing staff and/or volunteers is important, as are strong oral and written communication skills. The average annual fundraising need is $1,000,000.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with 3 to 5 years of church or para-church ministry and/or non-profit fundraising experience, including an emphasis in major donor development and event planning.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SALARY: Commensurate with experience

The Development Director will be responsible, under the direction of the Executive Director, for planning, overseeing and executing the fundraising strategy and plan for Valley Pregnancy Center.

DUTIES: Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, steward and retain qualified prospects and donors.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 qualified donor relationships and develop a custom cultivation strategy for each donor.
  • Strategically engage board members, staff and current donors in peer-prospect identification, visits, and peer-to-peer events.
  • Demonstrate a keen sense of curiosity for donors. Ask good questions, seeking to understand their reasons for giving and what they support.
  • Maintain donor database, log conversations with donors, and manage donor gift acknowledgments and appropriate levels of donor appreciation.
  • Establish and maintain vibrant relationships with local churches, connecting with individual church ministry representatives and making presentations as opportunities become available to communicate the mission of Valley Pregnancy Center to raise financial support.
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director, other staff, and Board of Directors to establish a strategic development plan and annual fundraising goals.
  • Carry a portfolio of special projects as assigned, including—but not limited to—annual fundraising events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
