Director of Accounting and Business Office

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the successful candidate will be a hands-on and participative manager who will lead and develop an internal team to support the following areas: finance, business planning and budgeting, human resources, administration and IT.

The Director Accounting and Business Office will play a critical role in strategic decision making and operations as Guadalupe School continues to enhance its quality programming. This is a tremendous opportunity for a finance and operations leader to maximize and strengthen the internal capability of a well-respected organization in our community.


Financial management

  • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors.
  • Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the ED; administer and review all financial plans and budgets: monitor progress and changes; keep senior management team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
  • Manage organizational cashflow and forecasting.
  • Maintain and monitor the CYMA financial management/reporting system.
  • Manage contracts and grants.
  • Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices.
  • Effectively communicate and present the financial and business matters of the organization to the Board of Directors and its committees.
  • Oversee the financial functions of the Charter School, including the supervision of the Charter School Business Manager.


  • Support the Development office including financial reporting, accounting, pledge processing, grant reporting, grant-specific budgeting.
  • Support the Business office in its functions including accounts payable, payroll and its allocation to restricted funding sources, internal policies, compensation and benefits, purchasing, and information technology.


  • Ethical leader; operates with absolute integrity
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and listen
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Nonprofit board or staff experience preferred
  • Must be willing and able to wear many hats


  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field; MBA or CPA a plus
  • 7 to 10 years of overall professional experience; ideally 6+ years of financial and operations management experience
  • Non-profit and/or charter school financial experience a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft
  • Experience with CYMA a plus
