Director of Parks and Recreation

$176,953 - $227,069 Annually DOE

The Director of Parks and Recreation is an executive management position that reports to the Deputy County Executive in charge of the Department of Parks and Recreation. The Director is responsible for leading, planning and administering the development and operations of the County's regional park system and recreation programs.


The County of Santa Clara is seeking a proven executive who will be a positive, progressive, energetic, responsive, politically astute and confident leader who is flexible, a good problem solver and customer-service oriented. He/She should be a team player and possess the creative vision to advance the Department’s services. Additionally, he/she will thrive in a high pressure, fast-paced, dynamic environment. Interpersonal skills and the ability to easily relate and adjust to a variety of situations and personalities, and to communicate with staff at all levels of the organization is a must.


The required knowledge and abilities would typically be acquired through education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Planning, Economics, Public or Business Administration or a related field, and a minimum of three (3) years recent experience with responsibility for the development, management and operation of parks and recreation facilities and programs.
