Full Time – Federal Way, WA

The Director of Philanthropy, with general direction from the VP of Human Resources and Administration, plans, coordinates, and executes proactive fund development and community relations programs to promote relationships and to improve the understanding among donors and potential donors, the general public, community organizations, businesses, other providers, schools and universities, and local news media of the agency’s role, objectives, and achievements using general and targeted fund-raising and community relations strategies and activities.

Essential Job Functions: (This is not the job description in its entirety)

  • Designs, implements and manages all agency fundraising activities including annual giving, capital campaigns, special projects, direct-mail campaigns, and other agency related solicitations.

  • Manages all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and relations.

  • Develop policies and procedures for the development department which reflect ethical fundraising practices.

  • Works with the Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer to develop strategies to initiate and meet aggressive fundraising goals.

  • Develops a public relations plan and an advertising plan that promote the agency fundraising and community relations goals.

  • Fosters an understanding of philanthropy within the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations. Masters Degree in relevant field preferred. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation and program development experience is an asset.

  • Minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization or foundation, increasingly responsible professional-level experience in public or community relations, including two years of supervisory experience. Human services or mental health experience a plus.

  • Proven track record of effectively gaining the respect and support of donors, board members, staff, and community members. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.

  • Pass required background checks.
