Executive Director

The Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes (CRCFL), a non-profit organization located in Ithaca, New York, is seeking an innovative and experienced Executive Director. The CRCFL serves nearly 5,000 people a year with a wide variety and range of services. The Executive Director has overall strategic and operational responsibilities while focusing upon planning, development, financial performance, community outreach and grant writing. The Executive Director will work in collaboration with the Board and staff to carry out the mission and values of CRCFL within the areas clients are served.



• In partnership with the Board, provide leadership and oversight in fundraising, planning and implementation including identifying resources requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach prospective contributors, submitting grant proposals while maintaining accurate fundraising records and documentation.

• Cultivate existing donors for ongoing support while seeking new prospects. Identify opportunities to diversify and expand CRCFL’s donor base such as major gifts and planned giving.

• Assure CRCFL has short-term and long-term strategies in accordance with Board goals/objectives and that metrics are established that measure the progress of these strategic objectives in a timely manner.

• Direct the overall financial management of CRCFL, including operating within the approved budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization and maintaining a positive financial position.

• Develop and submit an annual budget to the Board and present financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of CRCFL and performance to budget at required intervals.

• Initiate, coordinate and maintain educational programs in partnership with health-related agencies, academic institutions and other community groups.

• Act as a liaison in creating a comprehensive community relations approach when working with civic, business and governmental leaders.

• Monitor CRCFL’s organizational structure in the areas of human resources, overall operations, facilities management, financial systems, information technology systems and processes, and procedures and making improvements when necessary.


Desired Skills:

• Master’s Degree preferred in Human Services Administration or a related field.

• Minimum of three years’ management experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.

• Financial acumen; the ability and willingness to direct or advance development efforts and skill in pursuing funding from government and foundation services through grant writing.

• Strong leadership and management skills including team building, collaboration, motivation, conflict resolution and communication.

• Ability to plan, implement, administer, evaluate, communicate and develop resources that are critical to CRCFL’s overall success.

• Knowledge of all federal, state and local regulations applicable to non-profit organizations.

• Ability to interact comfortably and effectively with clients, families, staff, board members, donors, sponsors and community leaders.

• Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of people affected by cancer or other major illness.

• Ability to develop new and unique ways to improve operations of CRCFL and to create new growth opportunities.
