Executive Director, Literacy Texas

Literacy Texas is seeking an individual to serve as their Executive Director; someone who will have strategic and operational responsibility for executing the organization’s mission.

Founded in 2001, Literacy Texas is a 501(c)(3) organization serving as the statewide literacy coalition, connecting and equipping adult and family literacy providers through training, networking, and advocacy. We provide leadership to community-based organizations providing literacy services, literacy coalitions, and adult education programs throughout the state to build capacity and improve literacy levels in Texas. Our vision is that every literacy organization in Texas will have the resources it needs to help as many people as possible learn basic literacy skills in order to participate fully in society.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic self-starter with experience in partnership development and program delivery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Community leadership, planning, and collaboration: servant leadership within the literacy community and the ability to build membership. Will also serve as an advocate within the state legislature.

· Resource development: fundraising, brand building, and partnership development.

· Program Delivery: ensure the program is operating both strategically and tactically. Must be outcome and measurement oriented (strong data literacy is required) to ensure all resources are leveraged and program partners are meeting their goals.

· Management/Supervisory Responsibilities: staff/intern supervision

DESIRED EXPERIENCE, ATTRIBUTES, AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Executive Director will report to the board of directors, provide leadership to the organization and manage day-to-day operations. Ideal candidates will bring to the position a variety of attributes, knowledge, and skills, including:

· Excellent written and oral communication skills and a respectful and collaborative approach to fostering partnerships with diverse stakeholders

· Visionary leader skilled in innovation and problem solving to guide the organization to new levels of performance excellence

· Relationship-builder who can comfortably connect with organizational and community partners, donors, and the board

· Clear strategic mindset, able to balance and prioritize among compelling opportunities and needs

· Passion for, and energy to community the mission of Literacy Texas to the community

· Bilingual skills a plus

· Knowledge of literacy issues and needs in Texas a plus

· Ability to live and work in Austin area preferred; may also be located in DFW, Houston, or San Antonio. Position requires approximately 40% travel.

· Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Education, Marketing, Non-Profit Management or related field, or appropriate experience; advanced degree preferred

· Proven record of fundraising success with individual, corporate, and foundation donors, as well as in securing earned income

· Nonprofit management experience, including board relations a plus
