Executive Director | Job Description

The New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence (“NR Fund”) supports the New Rochelle school system and its extraordinary, diverse student body through advancing equity, excellence and inspiring all public school students. We partner with the City School District of New Rochelle and engage the broader New Rochelle community to develop, fund and implement high-quality educational and enrichment programming that enhances the school experience and helps students thrive and succeed along their educational journey.

Reporting to the Board of Directors for the NR Fund, the Executive Director (“ED”) will have overall operational and  strategic responsibility for the NR Fund’s staff, programs, expansion and execution of its mission.  The ED leads the coordination of and participates in regularly scheduled meetings (in-person, phone, and/or online) with Board, Board Committees and other constituencies, as well as bi-weekly meetings with Board Co/Chairs as needed. S/he works closely with the Board and/or City of New Rochelle school administration to develop NR Fund programs, operations, and business plan.  To this end, the ED will provide oversight for a full range of signature and legacy programming, as well as a new community grant program for the solicitation and creation of new programs to support the mission of the NR Fund. The NR Fund’s ED oversees the Director for the Museum of Arts & Culture “MAC”, the only Regents-chartered museum in a school in the State of New York, to jointly collaborate on additional educational and enrichment programs for MAC.

All candidates should have proven fundraising, leadership, grants and relationship management experience.  This position entails responsibilities that include both “behind-the-scenes” operations, while balancing a very public role as the “face” of the NR Fund.  As such, the incumbent should be expected and prepared to be engaged at all levels of the organization, as well as representing the NR Fund’s interests to the broader New Rochelle community.

Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include, but not limited to:

  •          Conferred undergraduate degree; non-profit or comparable business experience. Graduate degree a plus;
  •          Excellence in organizational management with the ability to manage staff, work with board members and other volunteers, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget;
  •          Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and collaborate with diverse groups of people. Ability to build consensus;
  •          Strong written and verbal communications skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary skills.
  •          Ability (and/or desire to learn) to leverage technology required for the position, to include but not limited to: Little Green Light; Web (WordPress) & Social Media content creation and management; Database Management; QuickBooks, Constant Contact, etc.;
  •          Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Powerpoint, Excel);
  •          Experience with Adobe software (Acrobat, InDesign, etc.) a plus;
  •          Experience in/with education, youth programming, outreach programs, arts and/or STEM programming a plus;
  •          Other duties and initiatives as identified by the Board.

The ED will be thoroughly committed to the NR Fund’s mission.

This is a Part-Time (~30 hour/week) position. Flexible schedule, however, candidates should expect in-person office hours during the school day, with occasional variable evening and/or weekend activities throughout the year.Office located in the New Rochelle High School, 265 Clove Road, New Rochelle, NY 10801.  References required.
