Executive Director

THE PARKS FOUNDATION OF MIAMI-DADE

The Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade. Inc. is seeking a high energy, engaged leader to serve as Executive Director of the Foundation, which was established in 2004 to foster the recreational, educational, environmental and cultural life of the Miami-Dade County community by encouraging and soliciting support for our county’s park system. The Executive Director will be responsible for leading the foundation’s growth, increasing its impact and guiding its mission. Candidate should be self-directed, able to engage with diverse stakeholders and possess solid financial acumen.  He/she will identify and pursue strategic opportunities and cultivate relationships/partnerships to advance its mission and implement its strategic plan. This individual will possess outcome-oriented nonprofit leadership experience that evidences the capacity to effectively lead while growing and sustaining a high level of collaboration, innovation and productivity, critical to the Foundation’s success.  Candidate will report to the Board of Directors, Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Executive Director is responsible for leading the Foundation’s growth, increasing its impact and guiding its mission. He/she will identify and pursue strategic opportunities and cultivate relationships and partnerships the Foundation needs to advance its mission and implement its strategic plan. This individual will possess outcome-oriented nonprofit leadership experience that evidences the capacity to effectively lead while growing and sustaining a high level of collaboration, innovation and productivity, critical to the Foundation’s success and sustainable future.

Reports to: Board of Directors, Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade. Serves on Foundation Leadership Team.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Lead the ongoing development and implementation of the Foundation’s strategic plan, in close collaboration with the Board of Directors.

* Identify, develop and advocate for policy strategies that address park threats, improve resource protection, and enhance visitor experience in the Miami Dade County park system.

* Cultivate relationships with public officials to become champions for parks

* Manage long-term and day-to-day Foundation functions, including creation of budget and the annual report, a snapshot of key Foundation initiatives

* Conduct research and organize local leaders, park constituents and representatives from private and nonprofit sector organizations to address issues affecting parks

* Represents the Foundation at public events through attendance and public speaking.

* Support and carry out fundraising responsibilities in partnership with the Board of Directors, including maintaining relationships between donors and foundation, and writing proposals as needed

* Build and maintain strong knowledge and broad relationships within the local community, the philanthropic field and fields related to issues of priority for the Foundation.

* Assist in development and execution of a marketing/branding plan for the Foundation

* Design and implement strategies to increase Foundation’s community presence

* Work with the Parks Department and community partners to promote and support county parks and parks programs

* Oversee Foundation’s website and social media accounts

* Assist the Board of Directors with other duties as assigned

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS                                                                    Executive Director

Experience, Abilities & Skills

* Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and five years of progressively responsible professional nonprofit leadership and policy advocacy experience

* Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising strategies and donor relations

* Strong abilities to create, implement and manage projects independently and in collaboration with others.

* Effective process facilitator and ability to engage and effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.

* Strong research and analytical skills and experience in managing the implementation of strategic priorities

* Strong knowledge and understanding of parks’ role in building more environmentally, economically and socially sustainable Miami-Dade communities

* Proactive, takes initiative, self-motivated.

* Aligned with Foundation values and commitment to fostering a positive office culture.

* Ability to work independently and collaborate and coordinate with others.

* Excellent customer service commitment, interpersonal skills in working with colleagues, external constituents and board members

* Excellent skills in organization, meeting deadlines, responding to time-sensitive matters, attention to detail, time management, managing multiple tasks, setting priorities and solving problems.

* Excellent writing skills and general communications abilities both written and verbal are required, as is demonstrated experience in preparing, writing and presenting reports on work projects.

* Demonstrated experience in public speaking to small and large groups.

* Availability to work outside of traditional business hours and some travel may be required.

* Excellent skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, working with databases, internet research; knowledge of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge a plus.
