Grants and Contracts Manager

Reporting to the Department Administrator (DA) and working closely with Principal Investigators, the Grants and Contracts Manager is responsible for financial oversight of the portfolio of sponsored research awarded to IGM investigators. The incumbent will perform post-award activities including detailed reconciliation of project budgets, development of budget projections, make any adjustments to project budgets to meet project goals in compliance with sponsor and institutional policies, and provide assistance and oversight to effort management.

This position is expected to exercise discretion and independent judgment to make decisions that impact the compliant and successful completion of grant and contract objectives. 
Principal job responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
Post‐award financial analysis of grants, contracts and subcontracts. 
- Reviews notice of grant award with PI, making note of any special restrictions. 
- Work with Senior Director of Research Strategy on project management plan for review by the PI; ensure plan is executed and monitor financial aspects. 
- Requests creation of new account numbers appropriate to funding source and activity, and confirms that budget information is set up according to approved budget. 
- Ensure understanding of the current fiscal performance of studies and identify areas of concern that need resolution. 
- Advise PI on budget adjustments and revisions necessary to meet the sponsor requirements. 
- Tracks milestones and due dates for all progress reports and awarded research grants. 
- Establishes and maintains appropriate communication with sponsoring and regulatory agencies, Principal Investigators and other designated University members regarding grant/account status. 
- Works closely with subcontractors to establish a budget, ensure accurate and timely billing, payments, and the renewal of subcontract agreements. 

Reporting and Reconciliation: 
Monitors expenses and variances. Prepares year‐end final reconciliations and project closeouts for Sponsored Projects Finance. Reconciles and analyzes the University's financial accounting statements. Coordinates close‐out, including final reconciliation and payment transfers. 

Works with Principal Investigators, faculty, and the Finance Manager to ensure adherence to pertinent regulations, policies, and procedures that govern sponsored grant funds. Stays abreast of regulations, policies and guidelines related to the conduct of research. Participates in regulatory audits and inspections; corrects deficiencies. Ensures that Conflict of Interest and Effort Reporting records are accurate and up-to-date. 

- Work with the Senior Director of Research Strategy on financial aspects of new grant applications. Develop budgets and budget justifications which include proofing the budget for inconsistencies, ensuring accuracy and consistency between budgets and budget justification which includes sub-recipient information secured from sub-agreements.  Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.  Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications 
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant- Demonstrated ability to perform insightful financial analysis in a research administration environment. 
- Proficient computer skills and experience with various software programs such as MS Office, PowerPoint and Excel. 
- Demonstrated professional attitude and ability to work collaboratively, harmoniously and effectively as part of a team. 
- Must possess strong communications, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Research or grants education and/or certification is preferred.  Special Instructions
