LGBTQ Affairs Liaison - Mayor's Office

The Mayor's Office is seeking a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) Affairs Liaison to connect LGBTQ people with government services and to help to ensure that services they receive are culturally competent. The primary role of the LGBTQ Affairs Liaison or is to assist, support, and advise the Mayor, Chief of staff and Baltimore City Government on the needs of LGBTQ residents, to serve as a liaison between the LGBTQ community the City of Baltimore, and to educate residents and the city workforce on the needs of the LGBTQ Community. This position reports to the Director of the Mayor's Office of Community Engagement.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support the growth and development of the City's LGBTQ communities;
  • Strengthen partnerships between the community, Mayor's office, and LGBTQ serving organizations;
  • Support the growth and success of the Mayor's LGBTQ Commission; serve as Executive Director for the Commission.
  • Support the development and implementation of an LGBTQ leadership training module;
  • Identify, train, and establish city LGBTQ Department Liaisons if needed;
  • Participate in speaking engagements, panels, lectures to further the Mayor's Office's mission and reach;
  • LGBTQ Competency Training Coordinator for the City of Baltimore Workforce in collaboration with Mayor's Office of Economic Development
  • Social media management- including Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms to effectively disseminate information to the community, and respond to inquiries.
  • Database management- assist with the development and maintenance of agency databases including Excel, Google, access, and Microsoft platforms such as SharePoint.
  • Policy development- craft policy with the collaboration of agency and community stakeholders including the LGBTQ commission, city council members, and the private sector;
  • Relationship/Coalition building- with stakeholders to identify areas of need in the city's LGBTQ community
  • Supervise staff, as needed.

  • Highly organized and methodical; Innovative with strong critical thinking abilities;
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet tough deadlines in a fast paced, demanding environment;
  • Customer focused; positive outlook; strong people skills;
  • Ability to critically review reports and data;
  • Strong writing and editing capabilities;
  • Experience with social media platforms;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences including senior government officials;
  • Experience with issues facing marginalized groups in the LGBT community (transgender and gender non-conforming; people of color);
  • Ability to work with diverse communities in a respectful manner; Comfort with terminology and pronouns;
  • Experience with a Trauma-informed approach


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of two years working in community engagement field
  • College degree preferred
  • Grant-writing/ fundraising experience
  • Experience working on a sustained public campaign


1+ years' experience working on two or more of the following:

  • Elder issues
  • Economic Empowerment,
  • City relations,
  • Community Outreach,
  • Health and Wellness,
  • Immigration/Faith/Civil Rights,
  • Race relations,
  • Trans Equality,
  • Youth and Families
