Manager, Individual and Foundation Relations

Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director of Development, the Manager, Individual and Foundation Relations will advance major gift fundraising efforts as the AKC and its charitable affiliates continue to grow. A new position in the organization, the Manager will contribute to the design and execution of our growing major gifts program. She or he will focus on advancing our comprehensive development strategy geared towards establishing and advancing relationships and engagement primarily with individual donors, but also private foundations as opportunities arise. The Manager is responsible for expanding our portfolio of major donors for the AKC and its affiliates from both within and outside of AKC’s existing constituent base. This individual is expected to be a proven fundraiser, with experience in several of the following areas: major gifts relationship management, face-to-face solicitation of individuals and foundations, grant writing, campaign and event fundraising, donor stewardship. This is an exciting initiative for the AKC and an opportunity for an energetic and entrepreneurial individual to help build a successful program with enormous potential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a written plan for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding, individual and foundation donors capable of giving $5,000+ annually.
  • Secure financial support from individuals and foundations.
  • Expand our portfolio of potential major gifts donors through research and prospecting activities.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors.
  • Develop and propose strategies for solicitation of major gifts, including: establishing and advancing relationships with potential donors; recommending specific giving opportunities and levels of gifts; assuring that solicitations are carried out; conducting appropriate stewardship of gifts.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors.
  • Maximize donor engagement through participation in special events.
  • Track and report on donor moves for individual and foundation portfolio.
  • Achieve multi-year and annual organizational revenue goals as set by management.
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop and implement a bequest program.
  • Provide and present statistical analyses on donor giving to board and senior leaders.

Requirements

3-5 years' experience in Development & Fundraising. A proven track record in major gifts solicitation, grant writing, event fundraising, stewardship and planned giving with an established not-for-profit organization. Bachelors Degree required
