ADAPT Community Network seeks an outstanding leader with high emotional intelligence who will strategically guide and build upon the current fundraising program in New York City.  Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, she/he will have a small development team and will be expected to build out the team as needs arise. She/he will be a dynamic and creative leader who will act as a champion for the organization in maintaining and further building a team of talented individuals to increase funding for the organization.

She/he will provide the leadership, strategic direction, management and coordination for all fundraising efforts in order to maximize fundraising opportunities that both build on existing efforts and grow the organization’s capacity.  Highlights of responsibility include:

  • Designing and implementing innovative development strategies to grow the Agency’s base of donors and support.
  • Expanding the current events-focused fundraising program to a more diversified portfolio to include other revenue sources including major gifts and a more robust annual giving effort.
  • Leading the Development and Marketing Team to expand current fundraising activities to raise 3 to 5 million dollars over the next few years.
  • Creating detailed fundraising plans and assisting in the overall implementation and evaluation of their impact on an ongoing basis.


  • Responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive annual and long range strategic plan for individual, corporate and foundation major gifts.
  • Oversees the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual and foundation major gifts and pledges (currently defined as $1,000 and higher).
  • Manages a portfolio of primary prospects and key fundraising prospect activities and prepares CEO and Board for visits to attractive prospects.
  • Ensures that the development staff work closely with consultants, as well as staff throughout the organization to identify prospective donors for the agency.
  • Provides mentoring and leadership to existing staff and recruits as needed to accomplish strategic goals.
  • Monitors the department’s work in providing statistical reports on an ongoing basis for the CEO and Board as well as their work in conducting appropriate research for individual, corporate and foundation prospects while always measuring progress toward goals.
  • Oversees the work of the Marketing and Communications staff to promote the organization’s work and to raise its visibility with key stakeholders and the broader community.
  • Reflects optimistic and positive attitude, and conveys sensitivity to the needs of donors.


  •  Bachelor’s Degree with a Master’s in a relevant field preferred
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in Fund Development with a focus on building and managing a high-functioning department
  • Familiarity with marketing and public relations and knowledge of how they relate to fund raising
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong strategic planning, critical thinking and problem solving capabilities
  • Proficiency in Raisers Edge as well as more basic administrative systems – Excel, Power Point etc.
  • Demonstrated skill and success with the development and implementation of fundraising strategies, including major giving, donor stewardship and recognition
  • A successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting new and existing donors
  • Relationship building skills with the ability to engage, manage and motivate staff and  donors
  • Background in building teams
  • Collaborative and team-oriented with attention to detail and follow through
  • Highly-developed interpersonal skills with executive presence and poise to represent the organization to multiple constituents
  • Superior emotional intelligence with the ability to provide oversight and mentoring to small development team
  • Optimistic and positive attitude that conveys sensitivity to the needs of donors.
  • Compassion and dedication to underserved communities, especially individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
