The Opportunity

DLF has undergone remarkable growth during the past several years, growing to nearly 100 staff in five cities (New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, and Fairfield, IA) and a budget of over $15 million annually. It has earned broad public interest and support for its evidence-based work and proven impact from entertainment, media, and financial industry icons. CEO Bob Roth's 2017 New York Times bestseller,  Strength in Stillness: The Power of Transcendental Meditation, h as been featured in a wide variety of outlets, including  Good Morning America, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg Business Week, Dr. Oz, Ellen DeGeneres, and many others.


DLF is now poised for another phase of expansion and impact, putting it in a position to relieve suffering for tens of thousands more people experiencing the debilitating effects of traumatic stress. In order to support its ambitious plans, DLF seeks a growth-minded, experienced fundraising executive to become its next SVP, Development. The SVP will be the top executive charged with strategically enhancing all development funding streams. Working in partnership with the Executive Committee, CEO, and Board of Directors, the SVP will develop a multi-year fundraising strategy that supports DLF’s programs and operations.



  • Oversee and enhance a robust fundraising strategy that includes cultivation of principal gifts (>$100K), major gifts ($25K-$100K), individual gifts (<$25K) corporate giving, affinity groups, regional fundraising (LA, Chicago, NY, DC), Board giving, foundation giving, government support, and planned giving
  • Grow existing $15+ million annual budget to $20+ million annual budget (by working with solid and large foundations and high-capacity supporters – to start both planned giving and endowment)
  • Instill a growth-minded culture that engages the CEO, Board members, and other key stakeholders and donors in a manner that nurtures a collaborative approach to raising funds to support DLF’s mission
  • Prepare thoughtful, development-minded materials (e.g. bios and briefs) that support the CEO and other DLF leaders as the organization solicits major funding prospects
  • Maintain and deepen donor relationships through frequent, relevant, and insightful cultivation communications
  • Work with DLF’s programs team to create and develop funding proposals that target mission-aligned funding opportunities
  • Develop clear expectations, metrics, and performance measures to reach goals
  • Work with finance to fully understand and communicate progress toward fundraising goals
  • Staff and guide the Board’s Development Committee with the CEO and EVP
  • Assist CEO and Board Members to realize their annual goals and objectives
  • Identify and recruit prospective Board members, in coordination with CEO and Board Vice Chairs
  • Develop planned giving funding stream
  • Maintain a flexible and thoughtful leadership style that empowers staff and promotes teamwork



  • At least 15 years in nonprofit fundraising roles
  • Excellent interpersonal and cultivation skills
  • Demonstrated success in leading, managing, and growing a development team
  • Ability to effectively persuade and influence
  • Attention to detail and highly responsive
  • Collaborative
  • A bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is a plus
