Position Summary:

The New England Center and Home for Veterans (NECHV) is one of the nation’s premier private providers of human services to Veterans. The Center is at the leading edge of developing and delivering the most innovative, Veteran-centric and effective programs of support and care. The Vice President, Human Services for the NECHV is a recognized thought leader in Veteran services and a nationally impacting role in caring for those who have served.

The Center is seeking a strong, passionate and visionary leader, human services professional and community activist to help lead the Center in its mission to care for Veterans in-need. The NECHV Human Service VP oversees a team of fifty dedicated clinical and social service providers and manages the delivery of more than fifteen distinct service programs funded by federal, State, municipal contracts/grants; as well as private philanthropy.

Responsibilities:

In conjunction with the CEO and the Center’s Executive Leadership Team:

  • Strategic planning around the most relevant and effective Veteran and human service models. Behavioral Health, Aging, Substance abuse disorder, co-occurring conditions, homelessness, social determinants of health
  • Federal Government agency (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Department of Labor, Department of Health and Human Services) engagement and business development to ensure that the NECHV’s services reflect and steer the public policy
  • Engage with aligned health care and educational institutions on best practices, development and publication of effective clinical models and issues emerging in population served
  • Lead in the field of Veteran services, internally and externally.
  • Oversee the professional development and clinical supervision of a team of credentialed providers, ensuring focus on personal development, caregiver support and continuing education
  • Participate in the development of the Center’s strategic future to serve more Veterans with effective and impactful programs

Management of Human Services Team:

  • Oversee high level of service delivery from the Human Services Dept programs and ensure team members are working with service models such as Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction and Housing First
  • Ensure professional boundaries and issues of confidentiality are maintained
  • Provide direct supervision to Program Managers and Directors. Oversee Adjunct service providers – VA Reps and Boston Health Care for the Homeless
  • Coordinate closely with the NECHV’s Advancement and private philanthropy team to convey to the Center’s current and prospective donors the importance and impact of their support
  • Develop and implement new programs, working closely with team members to ensure provisions of grants and programing are met
  • Provide leadership in obtaining and executing new grants and contracts, working closely with Finance and other departments integral to the process
  • Take initiative to identify and solve interdepartmental challenges and those within the Human Services Department
  • Formulate and update new policies and procedures effecting all service delivery and Veterans we serve. Ensure department team members understand and work with all Center processes
  • Participate in speaking engagements and trainings on various subjects pertaining to the Veteran population served through the Center’s programing and service modalities
  • Ensure resolution of clinically related challenges as they arise with Veterans we serve at the Center and in the community, including formal grievances
  • Maintain CARF Accreditation standards and processes within the entire agency, with a focus on the Human Services Department

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Mental Health counseling, social work, or related field. Must have and maintain professional license
  • Strong clinical knowledge, skills and experience including Substance Use Disorders
  • Understand and be able to implement service modalities throughout the agency – Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care and Housing First
  • Ten plus years of direct management experience in human services- nonprofit agency serving multi-cultural challenged and homeless or at risk Veteran populations
  • Experience with grant writing and reporting, program development and implementation
  • Experience with facilitating trainings and / or professional presentations
  • Strong leadership and management ability
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong understanding of challenges faced by homeless Veteran population
  • Proficiency with database systems and reporting
