Vice President of Development (F/T)

Position Summary:

The LGBT Network is seeking a Vice President (VP) of Development to provide leadership in fundraising for the organization, serving as a key leadership team member, and an active participant in making strategic decisions. In partnership with the President/CEO, this position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities to meet established financial goals. The successful candidate will forge new relationships to build the organization’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The VP of Development will provide leadership for major gifts fundraising and will design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support. The Vice President of Development is based out of the Woodbury Center and reports to the President & Chief Executive Officer.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The Vice President for Development reports to the President/CEO and is responsible to:
• Support and partner with the President/CEO and board members on all major fundraising initiatives
• Supervise and guide the Director of Development for the effective day-to-day management of the Development Department, and attainment of fundraising goals through direct mail, individual giving/major donors, special events, corporate sponsorships, and legacy giving
• Establish and build a major gifts program and increase the number of donors contributing $5,000+ annually
• Work with the Executive Vice President/COO to develop strategic and compelling cases for support
• Support a Capital Campaign that is in its beginning stages for a new community center
• Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis
• Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors
• Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program
• Other duties assigned as needed

Qualification Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
• Ten-plus years of management experience in a non-profit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources), and experience in a supervisory capacity
• Demonstrable experience of securing five and six figure gifts from individuals
• Demonstrable experience with donor cultivation and relationship management over time, as well as growing a donor base in significant volume
• Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan
• Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
• Commitment to and knowledge of the LGBT community
• Ability to articulate the LGBT Network’s mission is essential
• Strong proficiency with computer skills such as Microsoft Word and Excel

Other Requirements:

• Flexible work schedule a must, as this position requires afternoon to early evening hours and weekends
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver license as this position will require frequent travel to Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
• Sensitivity, understanding and the ability to effectively interact with individuals, both internal and external, from diverse backgrounds
• Excellent interpersonal and phone skills and ability to work with a wide range of people
• Strong public speaking and networking skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
• Team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside the organization
• Strong organizational skills for handling multiple tasks at once
• Excellent time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
