VP, Principal & Major Gifts

The Foundation has undergone remarkable growth during the past several years, growing in size from 4 staff (<$3 million annual budget) in a single office to nearly 100 staff (>$15 million annual budget) located across 5 cities (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, and Fairfield, IA). It has also earned broad public interest and support for its evidenced-based work and impact – especially on the heels of CEO Bob Roth’s New York Times bestselling book Strength in Stillness The Power of Transcendental Meditation – from entertainment, media, and financial industry icons, as well as visibility with recent appearances on Good Morning America, Dr. Oz, Ellen DeGeneres, and coverage in The New York Times, Washington Post, and Bloomberg Business Week among others.

DLF is now poised for another phase of expansion and impact, putting it in a position to relieve suffering for tens of thousands more people experiencing the debilitating effects of traumatic stress. In order to support its ambitious plans, DLF seeks a fundraising executive to become its next VP, Principal & Major Gifts. The VP will be charged with implementing DLF’s principal and major gifts fundraising plan that supports DLF’s growth. This VP will also grow and manage a newly created national and regional fundraising team.

 

Responsibilities
 Create donor pipeline plan and manage cultivation efforts for principal gifts (>$100K) and major gifts
($25K-$100K)
 Maintain and deepen donor relationships through routine and thoughtful communications
 Work closely with SVP, Development to lead a team of national and regional development directors
 Collaborate with VP, Institutional Giving to expand principal and major gift funding opportunities

 Collaborate with DLF’s program team to help match major donors with programmatic expansion opportunities
 Develop clear, team-based priorities and goals to help reach fundraising targets
 Collaborate with the broader DLF team on all development-related marketing and communication
collateral
 Create insightful funder profiles, bios, and briefs for SVP, EVP, CEO
 Assist SVP and CEO with helping Board Members realize their annual funding commitments
 Help identify and recruit prospective board members, in coordination with SVP, EVP, CEO, and Board
 Work closely with the Board development committee and Board Liaison to increase communication and
funding
 Enhance fundraising reporting for national and regional offices
 Implement planned giving funding stream
 Maintain a flexible and thoughtful leadership style that empowers staff and promotes teamwork

Qualifications
 At least 10 years in nonprofit fundraising roles
 Demonstrated success in managing and growing a development team
 Strong ability to persuade and influence
 Excellent interpersonal skills
 Strong follow up skills
 Collaborative
 Solid problem solving and analytical skills
 Ability to use data to drive decisions (e.g. using Saleforce database for cultivation)
 A bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is a plus
