The Opportunity
The Chief External Affairs Officer (CEAO) is a senior executive leader responsible for advancing the mission, visibility, influence and long term sustainability of Greenwich House, Inc. through exceptional external engagement. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CEAO provides strategic leadership across development and fundraising, government relations, marketing and communications, board engagement, and public affairs.
The CEAO is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive external engagement strategies that strengthen Greenwich House’s philanthropic support, public presence, government partnerships, and community impact. This role requires a proven, results driven leader with a strong track record of personally securing major gifts, cultivating high level donor and corporate relationships, and successfully navigating government and public sector partnerships.

Responsibilities
Development & Fundraising
- Develop and execute annual and multi-year fundraising strategies designed to meet or exceed organizational revenue goals.
- Oversee all philanthropic revenue streams, including major gifts, annual giving, recurring giving, institutional giving, special events, and planned giving.
- Design and execute strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward high net worth donors and institutional partners.
- Build and manage a robust major gifts pipeline with clear metrics, accountability, and results focused outcomes.
- Provide executive oversight for foundation relations, public funding, and grant partnerships, ensuring alignment with mission priorities.
- Partner closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to advance donor engagement, solicitation strategies, and stewardship efforts.
Government Affairs, Public Policy & Advocacy
- Support the CEO in planning and executing Greenwich House’s government relations strategy, including engagement with city, state and federal officials and agencies.
- Bring prior experience participating in government initiatives, public sector partnerships, or advocacy efforts aligned with the mission of Greenwich House.
- Prepare briefing materials, talking points, and strategic recommendations related to government engagement and public affairs.
- Strengthen relationships with elected officials, community leaders, and public sector partners to advance organizational priorities.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that may impact Green House and provide strategic guidance to leadership.
Marketing, Communications & Public Affairs
- Provide strategic leadership for Greenwich House’s marketing and communications functions, directing brand strategy, messaging, and visual identity across all platforms.
- Ensure consistent, mission aligned storytelling that elevates Greenwich House’s programs, impact, and thought leadership.
- Oversee media relations, public relations campaigns, and crisis communications strategy.
- Leverage data and insights to refine outreach strategies, enhance audience engagement, and measure performance.
- Oversee executive positioning to elevate Greenwich’s profile through partnerships opportunities thought leadership, strategic speaking opportunities, media engagement, board/community representation, and public visibility initiatives.
Board & Organizational Leadership
- Actively engage and support the Board of Directors in fundraising, advocacy, and external relations.
- Lead and support relevant Board committees, including Development and Communications/Marketing.
- Build, mentor, and lead high performing teams across development, communications, and marketing.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence across all external affairs functions.
What You’ll Bring
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in development, communications, public affairs, or related fields.
- Established presence in the New York City philanthropic community.
- Demonstrated success in securing major gifts and managing complex fundraising portfolios.
- Strong understanding of New York City’s philanthropic, political, and media landscapes.
- Exceptional communication, relationship building, and strategic planning skills.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing organizational change.
- Commitment to the mission, values, and community centered work of Greenwich House.
Employment Details
Location: Hybrid. Office located at 623 Broadway, New York, NY 10012
Schedule: 35 hours/week, Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
FLSA Classification: Exempt

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this position is $225,000.00 - $250,000.00 annually. This range reflects the anticipated compensation at the time of this posting and may be adjusted based on experience, education, and organizational needs.
