POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer has responsibility for safeguarding the facility assets and ensuring financial statements are prepared and maintained in accordance with GAAP. The CFO is responsible for ensuring compliance with company financial and accounting policies, ensuring internal controls are effective, and serving as a key member of the Facility A-Team in establishing and implementing strategic business plans.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Operations & Risk Management:
• Identify and independently assess financial risk, establish mitigation plans
• Monitor financial performance and maintain reasonable financial plans and forecasts
• Analyze daily operating results to ensure revenues, expenses, and labor are within budget
• Establish and maintain sound financial controls and record keeping
• Ensure financial operations are carried out in an ethical, responsible manner
Budget & Financial Planning:
• Establish and monitor annual operating budget according to sound principles
• Evaluate overall financial position and prepare periodic financial and operating reports
• Prepare financial forecasts, rolling 90-day forecasts, and cash management controls
• Coordinate with senior leadership in developing strategic and financial plans
• Review and ensure effectiveness of all financial and accounting systems
Revenue Cycle Management:
• Monitor revenue cycle process and work with stakeholders on improvements
• Oversee rate setting, charge capture, managed care negotiations, and cash collections
• Ensure upfront collection goals are met and A/R days are reduced year over year
• Manage HIM Department operations 24/7
Leadership & Strategic Planning:
• Work collaboratively with home office departments including Compliance, Accounting, Legal, Treasury
• Evaluate and manage capital project investments with unbiased scrutiny of ROI
• Act as full partner in pursuit of new revenue generation opportunities
• Serve as thought partner for CEO, promoting ideas in bold and respectful manner
• Build consensus across disparate people with competing priorities
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
• Minimum 10 years progressive financial healthcare (acute hospital) experience
• Areas of expertise: general accounting, operations, financial systems, statement preparation, multi-discipline management
• Successful experience as CFO in highly competitive market
• Referenceable track record in facility finance with demonstrated improved financial performance
• Participation and supervisory experience in negotiating managed care contracts
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong business acumen and data-driven decision-making abilities
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize and work under pressure
• Ability to convert complex finance issues into easily understood concepts
• Thorough understanding of healthcare trends and ability to anticipate opportunities
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and changing reimbursement environment
• Excellent oral and written presentation skills
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required
• MBA, MHA and/or CPA designation strongly preferred
