Development Specialist

The National Gallery of Art welcomes all people to explore art, creativity, and our shared humanity. Our renowned collection includes over 160,000 works of art, from the ancient world to today.

The Development Office is responsible for securing private financial support to sustain and expand the Gallery's exhibitions, educational initiatives, conservation efforts, and other programs that advance the National Gallery of Art's mission.

Duties:
- Identify, cultivate, and steward a portfolio of foundation donors and prospects.
- Develop and implement strategic foundation giving plans in coordination with the Director of Strategic Giving to secure support for the National Gallery's fundraising priorities.
- Prepare foundation grant proposals for donors and prospects.
- Prepare progress reports for foundation donors which provide information on the impact and outcome of their giving.
- Produce correspondence for donor emails, letters, and gift acknowledgments.
- Collaborate with foundation prospects to assess their giving capabilities.
- Manage special projects and events to cultivate and steward foundation prospects.
- Work collaboratively with the Development Department to support fundraising efforts, internal and external to the Gallery.
- Provide centralized project management support to the development department by coordinating fundraising efforts for exhibition support.

Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-10 level in the Federal service or private sector, with documented experience and proven success in front line fundraising, including the ability to prepare high level foundation grant proposals, cultivate and manage a portfolio of foundation grants and prospects, and work across departments to achieve fundraising goals. Alternatively, a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or a combination of education and experience, may qualify.

Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices, foundation grant making, and interest in the arts and culture sector.
- Skill in foundation grant writing and cultivation strategies.
- Familiarity with fundraising tools such as Raiser's Edge.
- Knowledge of project management tools such as Wrike and Asana.
- Ability to manage a portfolio of foundation grants and prepare polished, high-quality, time-sensitive reports while managing competing deadlines.

This is a full-time, permanent, privately funded position (NF-11, promotion potential 11) located in Washington, DC, telework eligible as determined by agency policy. Travel up to 20% may be required. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or Nationals. Salary range: $85,447 - $111,087 per year, subject to locality adjustment.
