This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position. The University has implemented a program allowing employees to work from home one day a week.

Brief Job Overview/Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the Director of Development plays a critical role in advancing Stockton University's fundraising efforts through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects. The officer manages a portfolio of alumni, parents, friends and other supporters capable of making major gifts of $25,000 and above.
The Director will engage, cultivate and solicit donors and prospects across assigned regions and projects, managing a dynamic portfolio focused on securing significant philanthropic support. This role requires an entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to be creative in developing strategies and trying new approaches to build meaningful donor relationships. The Director will be expected to travel regularly and to spend significant amounts of time off-campus for donor meetings and other events. In collaboration with University Advancement colleagues, Foundation Board members, and University leadership, the Director helps secure major gifts aligned with the University's strategic priorities and contributes to planning and executing fundraising campaigns, signature events, and donor engagement initiatives.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Qualify, cultivate, solicit, close and steward donors and prospects for gifts of $25,000+, building strong relationships that inspire continued giving and engagement
- Manage a portfolio of qualified prospects, advancing donor relationships through both in-person and virtual engagement
- Develop and present customized proposals and pledge agreements, including blended gift opportunities tailored to donor interests and capacities
- Collaborate with campus partners and University leadership to secure support for strategic priorities such as the Stockton Fund, scholarships, academic programs, and special initiatives
- Encourage portfolio prospects to support the Foundation's signature events and donor programs through philanthropic giving and engagement
- Identify and secure hosts for alumni, development, and presidential events for philanthropic giving, alumni and donor engagement and stewardship
- Contribute to the preparation of reports and updates for the Foundation Board of Directors, Board of Trustees Advancement Committee, and University leadership as requested
- Develop an annual Major Giving Plan aligned with departmental and institutional goals
- Contribute actively in departmental planning and execution of future capital or comprehensive campaigns
- Maintain current knowledge of Stockton's academic and co-curricular programs and fundraising priorities to ensure alignment of prospect engagement strategies with institutional goals
- Represent Stockton University and the Foundation at community and campus events
- Track and report donor contact, status, and next steps promptly and accurately in the CRM system
- Manage a dynamic work schedule that includes regular travel, with occasional evening and weekend commitments
- Perform other duties as assigned to advance departmental and University objectives
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Experience delivering presentations to diverse audiences
- Experience working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment
- Proven ability to build and manage professional relationships with donors, volunteers, and institutional partners with integrity and a positive, collaborative attitude
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of five years of professional fundraising experience, including at least three years focused on major gift fundraising with a record of successful solicitations
- Familiarity with a variety of gift types such as cash, securities, in-kind contributions, bequests, etc.
- Ability to travel and manage a dynamic work schedule that includes evenings and weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree
- Experience working in higher education
- Familiarity with Ellucian CRM Advance
