Government Relations Director, Alabama

American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) seeks a Government Relations Director to lead state-level advocacy for cancer policy in Alabama.

This is a remote position home-based anywhere in Alabama. Must be present at the state capital regularly during legislative session.

Key Responsibilities:
- Legislative Impact (50%): Develop and implement a comprehensive state advocacy strategy; build long-term relationships with lawmakers and executive officials; lobby and draft policy materials; monitor and track legislation.
- Stakeholder Engagement (20%): Build coalitions; manage consultants and lobbyists; serve as public-facing leader.
- Grassroots Mobilization (15%): Support patient and volunteer engagement and campaigns.
- Communications (10%): Act as spokesperson; develop presentations.
- Compliance (5%): Ensure legal and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's or advanced degree in Public Health, Public Policy, or Law preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in state government affairs, health or patient advocacy.
- Experience driving legislative campaigns and working with volunteers and coalitions.
- Skills: Passion for cancer policy, government relations, communication, virtual teamwork, budget management, and commitment to DEI.
