Senior Director, Finance & Operations

The Senior Director, Finance & Operations is a pivotal leadership role for a mission-aligned, "builder-minded" leader who acts as the senior-most internal finance and operations lead. This is a player/coach position requiring a balance between executive-level strategy and hands-on operational execution to strengthen the organization's financial infrastructure, stewardship, and scalability.

Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership: Set the vision for the finance function, lead integrated budgeting and forecasting, and act as a bridge between strategy and execution in partnership with the fractional CFO and internal leadership.
• Operations & Compliance: Oversee accounting, payroll, procurement, grant management, and audit readiness. Ensure compliance and build scalable, efficient operational systems.
• Team Management: Manage and mentor the finance team, foster cross-functional collaboration, and increase financial literacy across the organization.
• Innovation: Leverage technology and AI to streamline financial modeling, scenario planning, and data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in nonprofit finance and budgeting.
• Demonstrated success as a builder and systems thinker.
• Experience leading financial compliance, grant budgeting, and audits.
• Operational expertise beyond finance (e.g., policy, procurement, contracts).
• Ability to thrive in fast-growing environments with a "hands-on" leadership approach.
• Active learning mindset regarding technology and AI in financial contexts.
