The Trustees of Reservations seeks a Vice President of Ecology and Climate to lead statewide strategies shaping how the organization manages, stewards, and restores forests, grasslands, wetlands, coastal systems, and farmland.

Founded in 1891, The Trustees is the nation's premier conservation and preservation organization, protecting more than 50,000 acres including 27,000+ acres on more than 120 reservations open to the public in Massachusetts.
Salary: $148,750-$191,250 (new hires placed between minimum and midpoint: $148,750-$174,250)
Job Type: Hybrid, Full-Time, Exempt
Your Impact:
Lead organization-wide ecology, agriculture and climate strategies, overseeing major initiatives in habitat protection, climate adaptation, and sustainable land use to address biodiversity loss and climate change.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for sustainable management of forests, grasslands, wetlands, and coastal areas
• Lead and mentor a team of ecology, agriculture, project management and habitat management professionals
• Oversee best-in-class stewardship practices supporting 167 rare species and 20+ rare habitat types
• Represent The Trustees with government partners, conservation coalitions, research institutions, and community organizations
• Serve as a leading voice for science-based conservation and climate policy in Massachusetts
• Collaborate across the organization in a matrixed environment
Required Qualifications:
• Master's degree in environmental science, natural resource management, ecology, conservation biology, or related field
• 15+ years of experience in nature conservation, with minimum 5-7 years in leadership
• Demonstrated expertise in land management, conservation strategies, climate adaptation, and environmental policies
• Experience leading strategic initiatives and managing complex portfolios
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience managing cross-functional or matrixed teams
• Experience developing budgets for large, multi-year conservation or climate initiatives
• Proven success receiving and administering complex multi-year grants
• Background in agroecology, climate-smart agriculture, or applied ecological research
