Since our founding in 1924, the American Heart Association has cut cardiovascular disease deaths in half, but there is still so much more to do. The American Heart Association has an exciting opportunity for a Vice President, Development, in our Northern New England market, preferably based in Southern Maine (Portland or surrounding area). In this role, you will report to our Executive Director. As a player/coach, you help lead the market's development team, along with managing the Maine Go Red for Women campaign and your own portfolio of donors and sponsors. Responsibilities include ensuring that market revenue goals are achieved through engaging volunteers and staff in mission-based fundraising campaigns.
This position will be home-office-based, with external-facing engagement within the Northern New England market. The VP of Development will manage Fundraising Development Directors, mentoring them to achieve their fundraising goals and objectives, while building a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships with corporate and community leaders to improve fundraising efforts.
We offer a base salary with the potential to earn an incentive up to 25% of base pay, based on achieving certain revenue targets and triggers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Overall achievement of the $2 million revenue goal for the Northern New England market.
- Directly leading development/fundraising campaigns and staff teams to achieve bold revenue targets through strategic campaign development and effective volunteer and staff management.
- Identify, recruit, orient, engage, and develop medical and non-medical volunteer partners and leadership to champion fundraising success through personal and corporate giving.
- In partnership with the Executive Director and VP, Community Impact, support Board priorities and serve as a resource and contact for Board volunteers.
- Grow overall market revenue by implementing Best Practices; drive new business recruitment and campaign growth through cultivation, stewardship, renewal, and acquisition of companies and donors.
- Promote collaboration with development and health strategies staff around revenue and mission-related goals.
- Seek out opportunities to more deeply engage event donors through Major Gifts opportunities.
- Build powerful relationships with corporate and business leaders and senior-level volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- At least three years of relevant experience, preferably in a development position in a similar non-profit organization.
- At least one year of experience in employee management, preferably in development or fundraising staff.
- Experience leading and cultivating high-level leaders at the C-suite level preferred.
- Direct knowledge of special event fundraising tactics is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience securing corporate donations by participating in and leading top-level sponsorship asks.
- Experience cultivating major donors, securing sponsorships, and recruiting new companies and donors.
- Must be willing to work outside standard hours in support of events, sponsors, and volunteers, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Willing and able to travel daily to meetings and events throughout the market (Maine, Central Massachusetts, and New Hampshire), with occasional overnight travel.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The expected pay range is $72,960 to $95,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. This position is incentive-eligible based on achieving certain targets.
