The Center for American Progress seeks a Chief Development Officer to lead the development team and work closely with the President and CEO to develop and execute the fundraising strategy for American Progress.

Position Summary:
The Chief Development Officer will work closely with the President and CEO on board engagement and manage a portfolio of six- and seven-figure prospects while leading and overseeing the management of the Development department. This position leads a development team of 12 fundraisers and support staff to help them reach the combined CAP and CAP Action goals of more than $60 million annually.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead a development team of 12 fundraisers and support staff
• Develop and execute an integrated fundraising strategy that increases contributed support and diversifies donor types
• Carry a portfolio of six- and seven-figure prospects
• Support the President and CEO in soliciting high-level donors and with board engagement
• Partner with senior leadership to ensure fundraising success across policy and advocacy departments
• Ensure fundraising strategies are clearly understood by senior leadership
• Manage both general support and restricted funding development opportunities
• Develop, attract, and lead a diverse, talented, and high-performing team
• Serve as coach, mentor, and leader of the development staff
• Successfully balance a robust travel schedule with day-to-day department oversight
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• 10+ years of nonprofit leadership experience managing a large, comprehensive, national fundraising program
• Demonstrated success leading a team and managing a seven-figure portfolio
• Proven track record in fundraising from various sources including foundations, individuals, and the private sector
• Excellent problem-solving, written and oral communication skills
• Ability to use data and CRM systems to set strategy and drive performance
• Knowledge of progressive philanthropic and political sectors is desirable
• Familiarity with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) regulations is a plus
Compensation: $210,000-$260,000 per annum
