Chief Innovation Officer

Salary $120,722 - $190,376 per year

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), part of the Maryland Department of Transportation, is hiring a Chief Innovation Officer in Baltimore City. This Executive Service position (DOT Executive VI) will set up and lead MTA's Office of Innovation and give strategic direction to major project development and delivery, external affairs and government relations.

What you will do

• Write and carry out MTA's innovation strategy, tied to the agency's long-term mobility goals
• Evaluate and bring in new transportation technology, including autonomous vehicles, AI, microtransit and better connectivity, and run pilots in fare collection, real-time service tracking, workforce deployment and data analytics
• Build partnerships with local, state and federal agencies, private companies, universities, labor partners and community groups, and represent MTA in industry forums
• Lead sustainability work, including the move to zero-emission fleets and long-range mobility plans

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in business or public administration, transportation planning, engineering, information technology, public policy or a related field
• Fifteen years of experience in public transportation, transportation planning or operations, technology innovation, strategic planning, public administration or a related field, including at least five years of senior executive management
