ABOUT THE POSITION
The Program Director will lead and manage the administration and direction of all public-facing CDS programs and initiatives at the Duke Center for Documentary Studies (CDS). This role shapes the intellectual and artistic landscape at CDS, fosters collaborations across Duke University and with partner organizations, and supports documentary artists. Reports directly to the CDS Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Design, Planning, and Management (40%):
- Create and execute all CDS programs, including the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, artist residencies, continuing education courses, public arts programming, workshops, exhibitions, awards/grants, and community engagement initiatives
- Collaborate with leadership, faculty, and staff to design programs for documentary makers
- Coordinate the CDS Undergraduate Education program and partnerships
- Develop publicity and marketing materials for programs and events
External Relations and Fundraising (20%):
- Build and maintain relationships with artists, organizations, and institutions locally, nationally, and internationally
- Collaborate on fundraising strategies, grant writing, and donor relations
Event Planning (20%):
- Plan and manage events such as arts programming, talks, symposia, workshops, and residencies
- Oversee event logistics, including travel, lodging, and technology needs
Program Budget Management (10%):
- Develop and manage program budgets aligned with financial goals
- Oversee financial administration and ensure compliance with Duke policies
Administrative Duties (10%):
- Prepare regular reports on program impact and metrics
- Supervise day-to-day operations and manage staff
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
Experience: Minimum 4 years in academic or creative arts administration, program management, event planning, and faculty/staff coordination.
Skills: Strong communication, collaboration, and strategic thinking; experience in fundraising, budget management, and digital media tools.
Preferred: Knowledge of documentary field, academic program development, and digital media production.
Anticipated Pay Range: $61,535 - $95,880
