Executive Director, Risk Management & Safety

Salary $159,319.52 - $225,114.32 per year

Kern Community College District is hiring an Executive Director of Risk Management & Safety at its District Office in Bakersfield. The role leads districtwide risk management, loss prevention, and occupational and environmental health and safety programs, setting consistent standards across the district's colleges, centers and locations.

What you will do

• Identify, assess, prioritize and monitor risks to employees, students, visitors, property and district operations
• Oversee the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and Cal/OSHA compliance, including inspections, corrective actions, training and records
• Run insurance and risk financing: coverage reviews, renewals and certificates, working with brokers, carriers, risk pools and legal counsel
• Coordinate liability and property claims with carriers, third-party administrators and counsel
• Review contracts and facilities use agreements for risk allocation, insurance and indemnification
• Oversee hazardous materials, exposure prevention, and fire and life safety compliance
• Report to district leadership and the Board of Trustees, and supervise assigned managers and staff

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in risk management, occupational health and safety, environmental health, public or business administration, or a related field
• Ten years of professional experience in institutional risk management, insurance and claims, occupational or environmental health and safety, or loss prevention, plus five years of senior management experience; an equivalent combination may be considered
• A valid California driver's license
• Preferred: a master's degree, a professional risk management certification, and Cal/OSHA and community college experience
