Senior Director, Executive Communications

The National Geographic Society (NGS) seeks a Senior Director of Executive Communications to serve as a strategic thought partner and lead the CEO's internal and external communications portfolio. This senior leader will elevate the Society's brand by raising awareness of key senior leaders, acting as primary speechwriter for the CEO, and managing executive visibility and thought leadership pipelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

CEO Communications (70%): Serve as primary writer and messaging architect; draft speeches, op-eds, talking points, and multimedia assets; manage CEO communications workflows and provide on-the-ground support at events.

Thought Leadership (10%): Develop and execute visibility strategies for key leaders; vet and manage speaking requests and PR opportunities.

Strategic Messaging (10%): Serve as key messaging architect for the next strategic plan; develop communication frameworks for internal and external constituencies.

Team Leadership (10%): Manage a team of two direct reports; establish KPIs and performance goals; mentor staff and manage budgets.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.

Experience: 12+ years of progressive communications/PR experience with emphasis on executive positioning and speechwriting; 5+ years of direct management experience.

Skills: Exceptional writing ability with experience capturing a leader's voice; experience supporting C-suite executives; proficiency in Keynote and digital/social media platforms; strong project management and interpersonal skills.

Salary Range: $185,250 - $195,000
