Senior Director of Operations — Onto Innovation
Full time
Locations: Remote-OR; Milpitas, California; Hillsboro, Oregon
Base salary: $167,280–$250,920, based on experience, location, and qualifications.
Onto Innovation provides process-control technologies across the semiconductor value chain, including 3D metrology, wafer and package defect inspection, metal interconnect composition, factory analytics, and lithography for advanced semiconductor packaging.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Strategy and Operational Leadership
Develop and execute the Service Operations strategy aligned with business and customer priorities. Establish scalable operating models, processes, governance, and performance expectations. Translate forecasts, installed-base growth, product roadmaps, and customer needs into capacity and operational plans. Anticipate operational risks and service requirements, and drive alignment across regions and cross-functional partners.
Operational Performance and Customer Experience
Define and improve service performance indicators. Ensure accurate, timely, actionable reporting; use data to identify trends, risks, and improvements. Establish service operating standards and service hygiene metrics with field leadership to ensure process compliance, disciplined execution, and data quality. Drive corrective actions and sustained improvements, establish mechanisms to measure business impact, and lead organizational change.
Installation and Product Acceptance
Oversee equipment installation and startup performance. Partner with Field Service, Engineering, Product, and customer-facing teams to improve installation effectiveness and reduce delivery-to-acceptance cycle times. Address recurring installation, qualification, and acceptance issues. Incorporate lessons from installations and field performance into processes, training, and product improvements.
Workforce, Capacity and Financial Management
Align workforce and headcount strategies with demand, installed-base requirements, productivity, and growth. Optimize deployment, utilization, coverage, and costs while maintaining service levels. Manage budgets and investments. Partner with Finance and business leadership on forecasting, workforce planning, productivity, and financial performance. Deliver quarterly and annual financial and operational objectives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related field, or equivalent education and relevant experience.
• Significant progressive leadership experience in service operations, field service, operations, engineering, or a related function within semiconductor equipment, semiconductor manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, or another complex capital-equipment industry.
• Experience leading managers and large, geographically distributed technical/service organizations.
• Success managing complex service operations through operational and financial KPIs.
• Experience with workforce and capacity planning, resource utilization, budgeting, and cost management.
• Proven ability to lead large-scale operational improvements or business transformations.
• Strong experience managing complex customer issues across technical and commercial organizations.
• Ability to influence and align senior leaders across organizational boundaries.
• Strong analytical, business, financial, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent executive communication and stakeholder-management skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Advanced degree in Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related discipline.
• Experience supporting semiconductor capital equipment in high-volume manufacturing.
• Lean, Six Sigma, or other structured continuous-improvement experience.
• Experience with service analytics, digital service capabilities, automation, and data-driven performance management.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Base salary range: $167,280–$250,920, offered in good faith and based on experience, location, and qualifications. Annual bonus opportunities and potential long-term incentives depend on company and individual success.
