Senior Policy Counsel for Artificial Intelligence, Privacy, and Technology

The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Senior Policy Counsel for Artificial Intelligence, Privacy, and Technology in the National Political Advocacy Department of the ACLU's National office in Washington, D.C. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.

Reporting to the Director of the Democracy and Technology Division within NPAD, the Senior Policy Counsel for Artificial Intelligence, Privacy, and Technology will lead the ACLU's federal policy work on artificial intelligence, data regulation, and privacy, collaborating with policy experts, litigators, and advocates across the organization to develop and advocate for the ACLU's positions in Congress, with the objective of protecting and advancing civil rights and civil liberties in the digital age.

What You'll Do:
- Lead federal and state policy work on AI, privacy, and technology issues
- Develop strategic legislative, campaign, and administrative policy options
- Draft bills and/or administrative rules/regulations at the federal, state, or local levels
- Prepare and deliver testimony before congressional committees or federal regulatory agencies
- Lobby elected officials and staff, Executive Branch officials, and other public officials
- Coordinate and conduct civil liberties briefings for government officials
- Collaborate with NPAD Policy and Government Affairs staff on Capitol Hill and state policy work
- Provide expert commentary to media and draft op-eds and publications

What You'll Bring:
- Law degree, with substantial legal research, writing, and advocacy experience
- Significant experience working in policy, legal, political, or government settings
- Demonstrated substantive expertise in civil liberties and civil rights law and policy, preferably with an emphasis on AI, privacy, and data regulation
- Exceptional writing and verbal skills with ability to synthesize complex information
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

Status: Full-Time
Salary: $161,123 annually (Level E)
Location: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid)
