Vice President, Operations, Hackensack University Medical Center

Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), the academic flagship of the Hackensack Meridian Health Network, seeks a Vice President, Operations. HUMC is an 803-bed nonprofit teaching and research hospital in Hackensack, NJ — Bergen County's first hospital, founded in 1888. HUMC is ranked #1 in the New York-New Jersey metro area and among the Top 20 hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report 2025-2026.

Hackensack Meridian Health is a leading not-for-profit health care organization and the largest, most comprehensive integrated health care network in New Jersey, with 18 hospitals, more than 36,000 team members, 7,000 physicians, and 500+ patient care locations.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Reporting to the President and Chief Hospital Executive, the VP, Operations is accountable for collaborating with senior executives in developing and executing the strategic plan of the Medical Center. This position is directly accountable for 1,600 FTEs across the following departments:
- Pharmacy
- Physical Therapy, Occupational, Speech, Pulmonary
- Neuroscience
- Organ Transplant
- Trauma Operations including Pathology Laboratory
- Children's Hospital

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs and participates in the development and implementation of the Medical Center's strategic plan, performance improvement program, HR program, and annual operating budget.
- Responsible for planning and directing the organization's programs and facilities in accordance with federal, state and local standards.
- Coordinates and directs the development and implementation of annual operating and capital budgets.
- Recruits, hires and supervises competent division and department leadership.
- Strategizes opportunities for business growth and development; identifies trends in the market for new services.
- Collaborates with physicians, nursing, and other healthcare team members to ensure excellence in patient care.
- Monitors relevant key financial indicators and performance metrics.
- Oversees effective allocation of capital and human resources, staffing mix and management of productivity.
- Develops a cohesive leadership team and promotes teamwork and professional growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in hospital operations in an integrated delivery system.
- Excellent financial management, delegation and organizational skills.
- Strong strategic planning skills.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in directly leading at a large, complex hospital in a highly matrixed organizational structure.
- Ability to drive improvement in key healthcare metrics including patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, physician engagement, and quality.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in a health-related field preferred.

Compensation: $350,000 - $450,000 Annually
