Overview
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is seeking an experienced executive to serve as Deputy Director, Human Resources Division (CEA Level C). This position is located at the East End Complex in Sacramento County.
The Deputy Director is responsible for all HR initiatives, activities, and services, providing guidance and expertise to the department regarding the recruitment, development, and retention of a diverse workforce to fulfill CDPH's mission of protecting and promoting the health of California communities.
Duties
- Plan, organize, and direct the work of multidisciplinary professional and administrative staff.
- Analyze administrative policies, procedures, and practices.
- Integrate diverse program activities to attain common goals.
- Advise top-level administrators on administrative matters.
- Develop cooperative working relationships with all levels of government, the public, and the Legislature/Executive branches.
- Analyze complex problems and recommend effective courses of action.
- Contribute to the department's Equal Employment Opportunity objectives.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of California State Government organization, public administration principles, management techniques, and personnel management.
- Ability to perform high administrative and policy-influencing functions.
- Desirable: extensive managerial experience developing HR functions (strategic planning, performance measurement), formulating HR policies, collaborating with advisory/policymaking groups, executing enterprise-wide projects, and serving as a subject matter expert.
- Must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) detailing education, training, experience, and skills.
