OVERVIEW
The Director of Donor Engagement (the Director) leads strategy and execution of individual giving from entry-level through mid-level donors, cultivating a relationship-centered experience that strengthens retention and builds a strong pipeline for major and planned gifts. The Director works closely with the Donor Database Director to advance segmentation, testing, and data-informed improvements across all campaigns, and serves as the primary partner to Marketing & Communications to ensure alignment on messaging, cadence, and delivery. The position provides leadership to the Annual Fund Manager and Donor Stewardship Manager, oversees monthly giving and mid-level donor strategies, and directs raffle planning—including compliance, vendor coordination, and messaging alignment—to ensure all donor touchpoints reinforce a seamless and consistent donor journey.

- Pipeline Development: Preparing donors for thoughtful transition to major gifts.
- Data & Technology: CRM insights and segmentation in partnership with the Donor Database Director.
- Marketing Integration: Alignment on email design, cadence, segmentation, and CRM workflows.
- Raffle Strategy: Oversee planning, compliance, vendor partnership, and messaging alignment.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the development and execution of annual fund strategy—including goal-setting, segmentation logic, donor journey design, creative direction, testing and optimization plans—and partner with the Annual Fund Manager to produce relationship-centered content and multi-channel appeals that drive sustained revenue growth.
- Lead the design and execution of the donor experience roadmap—including welcome series, tailored stewardship and impact communications, segmentation-aligned touchpoints, and donor recapture plans—and partner with the Annual Fund Manager and Donor Stewardship Manager to deliver cohesive engagement that strengthens donor loyalty and supports long-term revenue growth.
- Further develop and guide the mid-level donor program, collaborating with the Annual Fund Manager and Donor Stewardship Manager to design targeted cultivation plans, implement stewardship enhancements, identify upgrade opportunities, and ensure seamless qualification and handoff to Major Gifts.
- Oversee monthly giving program performance by advancing multi-channel acquisition efforts, establishing tailored stewardship and upgrade strategies, and coordinating with the Annual Fund Manager and Donor Stewardship Manager to support strong retention and donor lifetime value.
- Partner with Marketing & Communications on donor email campaigns, providing content and audience lists while Marketing builds and sends messages through HubSpot and the RE NXT RedArc Email Connector; maintain proficiency in both platforms to review segmentation logic, ensure list accuracy, monitor workflow performance, and support data-driven optimization.
- Collaborate with the Donor Database Director to interpret dashboards, analyze donor performance metrics, and translate data insights into actionable strategies that strengthen segmentation, refine donor journeys, and enhance overall engagement outcomes.
- Lead raffle planning in coordination with the VP of Resource Development and CFO; ensure compliance with the Secretary of State, oversee vendor partnership with third party contractors, confirm messaging alignment with Marketing & Communications, and maintain internal workflow clarity to ensure consistent donor experience.
- Collaborate frequently with Marketing & Communications and Programs staff to develop relationship-centered impact content.
- Supervise the Annual Fund Manager and Donor Stewardship Manager, providing coaching, accountability, and strategic direction.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)
- FY26 annual fund revenue goal ($800K+) + raffle ($825K+ net)
- Improved donor retention and reactivation.
- Growth in monthly giving and mid-level upgrades.
- Improved email performance in collaboration with Marketing & Communications.
- Increased qualified handoffs to Major Gifts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of donor database, CRM administration, or fundraising operations experience.
- Advanced proficiency in RE NXT; familiarity with HubSpot preferred.
- Experience with reconciliation, reporting tools, and BI dashboards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supervising or providing dotted-line oversight.
- Knowledge of Power BI or relevant analytics tools.
- Strong communication skills and ability to present data clearly to non-technical users.
- Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising operations and donor lifecycle strategy.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This position requires passing criminal and driving records investigations and reference checks.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and meet insurance requirements.
- Some duties require lifting 25+ lbs and periods of standing, kneeling, or reaching.
- Strong English proficiency required for communication and safety compliance.
This position works primarily at the Program Support Center, with occasional work at other BGCMD sites. Remote work must be approved in advance.
