The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933, the IRC is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), at work in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities.
The IRC is seeking an Executive Director (ED) to advance its work in Sacramento and Turlock, California. The ED sets the vision, articulates the mission, and manages the implementation of quality, evidence-based programming to maximize client outcomes. The offices have a projected FY26 operational budget of $13 million and approximately 113 staff.
Major Responsibilities:
General Management and Leadership
- Establish and articulate vision and strategy for IRC location. Engage with local leaders and communities to advance IRC's mission.
- Lead local strategic planning process. Coordinate with IRC headquarters.
- Hire, supervise, guide, and advise staff. Maintain office management structure that bolsters coordination across departments.
- Ensure timely and consistent communication with HQ on operational issues, policies and reporting.
Financial Management
- Coordinate annual budget development; regularly review the operating budget and monthly budget-to-actuals.
- Develop and track annual fundraising plan to ensure achievement of goals.
Advocacy, External Relations, Development, and Fundraising
- Lead local advocacy efforts and support national advocacy efforts.
- Define resource development strategy and develop a local fundraising plan.
- Coordinate development of a marketing strategy contextualized for the local environment.
- Maintain positive public image of IRC; engage with local media outlets.
- Build positive relationships in relevant sectors and refugee communities.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree required, advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible work experience with social services or humanitarian assistance programs.
- Demonstrated staff management, program development, monitoring, evaluation, and advocacy experience.
- Successful and significant fundraising and grant writing experience.
- Financial management experience including effective management of budgets.
- Keen diplomatic and interpersonal skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%.
Compensation: $137,925 - $153,247
