Sample Job Posting - Executive Director

NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION

New York, NY, USA  (On-site)

$150,000 - $180,000

About the Organization

Test Nonprofit Organization is a community development nonprofit serving the five boroughs of New York City. For more than 20 years, the organization has connected underserved neighborhoods with resources, advocacy, and programs that create lasting change. The annual budget is $4.5 million, the team is 35 people strong, and the board is actively engaged in fundraising and strategic planning.

About the Role

The Executive Director will be the public face of the organization and the chief strategist behind its next chapter of growth. This person will report to a 15 member board of directors and oversee all programs, operations, fundraising, and external partnerships. The organization is looking for a leader who can walk into a room of donors and make them feel the mission, then walk into a staff meeting and make the team feel supported.

What You Will Do

  • Set and drive the strategic vision in partnership with the board
  • Lead a $4.5 million annual fundraising effort across individual donors, foundations, corporate sponsors, and government grants
  • Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, community partners, and peer organizations across New York City
  • Manage and mentor a senior leadership team of four direct reports
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson to media, funders, and the public
  • Oversee program evaluation to ensure measurable community impact
  • Champion a culture of transparency, equity, and accountability at every level

What You Bring

  • 10 or more years of progressive nonprofit leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management role
  • A proven track record of raising $2 million or more annually
  • Deep knowledge of community development, social services, or a related field
  • Experience managing budgets of $3 million or more
  • Strong board relations skills and comfort presenting to diverse stakeholders
  • A genuine passion for equity, inclusion, and community empowerment

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $180,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include full medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 403(b) retirement plan with employer match, generous paid time off, and professional development support. The organization believes in paying competitively because the right leader is worth the investment.

Why This Role Matters

This is not a job where you manage from behind a desk. This is a role where you show up in the community, listen to the people the organization serves, and translate that into strategy that moves the needle. If you have spent your career building something meaningful in the nonprofit sector and you are ready to lead an organization that is poised for its biggest chapter yet, this is your opportunity.
