Risk Manager

California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) seeks a Risk Manager to develop, implement, interpret and manage policies, procedures and programs designed to mitigate risk and potential liability associated with university activities.

Position Overview:
The Risk Manager serves as the primary contact for the campus community and public for campus-related risk management issues. This role analyzes issues, makes decisions/recommendations to address identified risks, and interprets laws, regulations and policies to develop risk management strategies for the university.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Identification & Minimization:
• Serve as primary contact for campus-related risk management issues
• Analyze issues and make decisions/recommendations to address identified risks
• Interpret various laws, regulations and policies to develop risk management policies, programs, procedures

Tort Liability & Insurance Program Management:
• Manage campus tort liability and commercial insurance programs
• Oversee all fiscal responsibilities related to Risk Management
• Manage commercial insurance programs including property insurance, inland marine, student professional liability, foreign travel liability, vehicle insurance, special event insurance, and student travel accident insurance
• Develop and implement procedures and processes for each insurance program to obtain coverage and manage claims

Legal Holds:
• Draft legal hold notices advising campus individuals to preserve documents for lawsuits against CSU
• Coordinate electronic legal hold requests with Information Technology
• Represent the University during small claims and restitution legal proceedings
• Coordinate with University Counsel or Chancellor's Office General Counsel team

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required
• Minimum 5 years progressively responsible risk management experience including claims management required
• Valid CA driver's license
• Strong oral and written communication skills to convey detailed information to diverse audiences
• Ability to objectively analyze facts and develop effective risk management strategies
• Ability to communicate with ethnically and culturally diverse campus community
• Ability to contribute to a positive university experience and vision of excellence

Preferred:
• Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation
• Risk Management experience in public sector

Salary: $7,955 - $9,583 per month (commensurate with education, experience, skills, training)
Classification: Administrator II
Status: Regular, at-will position
Schedule: Full-time
